About
Hi 👋 I’m James. Just a father of two who really enjoys baking.
I’m not classically trained. I didn’t go to culinary school. Most days I’m learning by reading, watching, experimenting, messing things up, and trying again. I’m just a regular guy who likes making desserts and figuring things out one bake at a time.
Before I was a parent, though, I was an uncle.
I have three nephews, affectionately known as “the boys,” and being their uncle has been one of the great joys of my life. The oldest is now 18, and they’re all in different stages of growing up, learning who they are, and where they’re headed. No matter how much changes, we’ve always stayed close by finding time to hang out, talk, laugh, and just be present with one another.
Somewhere along the way, I fell in love with baking. What started as a creative outlet quickly became something I wanted to share, and naturally, the boys got pulled into it. Some weeks they’re hands-on in the kitchen. Other weeks they’re taste-testers, idea people, or moral support. However they show up, they’re part of it.
By the Boys Bakery grew out of that time together.
This bakery isn’t about perfection. It’s about curiosity. It’s about learning in public, trying new things, and getting a little better each week. Sometimes that means a win. Sometimes it means asking, “Why didn’t that work?” and inviting others into the conversation.
More than cookies, brownies, or whatever’s on the menu this week, this is about showing the boys that something fun can also be meaningful. That a hobby can be taken seriously. That you don’t need to be an expert to build something small, intentional, and real. And yes...that you get to enjoy the delicious results along the way.
I take my relationship with my nephews seriously. I love learning alongside them and giving them a window into what it looks like to create something with care, even when you’re still figuring it out. Baking gives us that space to slow down, work with our hands, and share something we’re proud of.
By the Boys Bakery is small-batch, family-centered, and made with a lot of heart.
Every weekly menu represents time spent together, lessons learned, and a whole lot of love baked in.
Thanks for being part of it.
